Pathway to the Rising Sun
Creative concept by Graham Hayward, carved by Heke Collier.  Located at Waiotahi Beach on State Highway 2, these carved pou depict the story of Maori and Pakeha interaction in the settlement of the Opotiki district.

The Lion In the Meadow
Created by Jonathon Campbell Located outside the Whakatane District Library, Margaret Mahy Court, Boon Street, Whakatane. This bronze was presented to the children of the district by the Molly Morpeth Canaday Trust, in recognition of the international literary achievements of Whakatane-born writer Margaret Mahy.
