About Us
Creative Eastbay – Te Taurapa a Toi is a regional arts partnership formed to promote and enhance the arts and cultural sector in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
Our partnership group has representation from our three local body authorities (The Whakatane, Opotiki and Kawerau District Councils); economic development agencies (The Eastern Bay Development Board, Kawerau Enterprise Agency); arts even organisers (including Eastbay REAP, the Whakatane District Community Arts Council, Opotiki Fibre and Fleece Trust, Opotiki Silent Film Festival, Opotiki Heritage Art Society); local iwi and individual arts practitioners.
Creative Eastbay has defined four key components in the first phase of its development and employs a part-time coordinator to implement the projects:
- Build and maintain a database of people and organisations involved in the Eastern Bay creative and cultural sector
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive website promoting local artists, activities (including cultural tourism), events and opportunities
- Producing a printed newsletter highlighting arts and cultural events and opportunities
- Undertaking a survey of the creative sector to help determine future needs
Creative Eastbay has been funded by Regional Strengths Maurangi Toi, a joint initiative by Creative New Zealand and the Ministry of Social Development.
